Song Lyric Thursday – November 13 2008

As I searched youtube for a recording of the Liam Clancy cover of The Green Fields of France for my Remembrance Day post, I saw a related video come up for “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda“, which was also covered by Liam Clancy and was also one of my dad’s favourites.

When I saw a reference to ANZAC in a comment by nursemyra on another blog post about Remembrance Day, I was also reminded of the 1981 film Gallipoli, which starred a young Mel Gibson.  I decided to make “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” my song pick for today.

Since I’m too lazy to obtain the necessary permission per this notice on the author/publisher’s website:

Both Eric and his publisher would like you to have access to the lyrics of his songs for your own enjoyment but, should you wish to reproduce copies for any purpose, you should first seek permission from the Publisher at the following address: –
Larrikin Music Pty Limited – 4/30-32 Carrington Street, – Sydney, NSW, – Australia, 2000

I’ll provide a link to the lyrics should you wish to peruse them:

And here’s Liam Clancy’s excellent (in my opinion) cover of the tune:

  1. and guess what Rob? I used to work (for 9 years) for the parent company which owns Larrikin Music…..

Well, that’s too cool nursemyra. So, can I assume you’re well acquainted with many of these tunes that fell upon my dad’s favourites list, then?
