Song Lyric Thursday – August 28 2008

I’m dragging my sorry butt away from deck building and back to the computer to bring you, my faithful readers (yes, both of you), yet another instalment of Song Lyric Thursday.  The inspiration for this week’s sweet tune is werewolves.  Yep.  Werewolves.

I vaguely recall the movie An American Werewolf in London (Hey, it was a long time ago!) and it’s more or less sequel An American Werewolf in Paris.  They were both pretty good flicks I thought.  And then I got to see a Canadian film called Ginger Snaps, which I consider to be one of the best werewolf flicks of recent times.

But I got a bit confused.  I mistakenly (Mistake?  You?  Yes.  Me.  Sigh.) thought that the song Mouth by Bush accompanied a werewolf metamorphosis scene in Ginger Snaps.  But after a short bit of research courtesy of the ole interweb I come to learn that it was, in fact, used in An American Werewolf in Paris.

At any rate, Ginger Snaps is an excellent film and I recommend it if you’re in the market for entertainment that’s a bit of creepy horror.

I first knew of Bush as Bushx.  The kids told me how it was because there was another band named Bush that had rights to the name.  But my research for this piece educated me on the fact that it was only in Canada that the British band Bush went by Bushx.  That prohibition ended in April 1997 when Domenic Troiano, of the 70s band Bush, who owned the Canadian rights to the name Bush allowed Bushx to use the name in exchange for donating $20,000 each to the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund.

Here are the lyrics to Mouth by Bush:

Mouth

Written by: Gavin Rossdale

Performed by Bush

you gave me this
made me give
your silver grin
still sticking it in

you have soul machine
soul machine

the longest kiss
peeling furniture days
drift madly to you
pollute my heart drain

you have broken at me
broken me

all your mental armor drags me down
nothing hurts like your mouth

your loaded smiles
pretty just desserts
wish it all for you
so much it never hurts

you have soul machine
stone at me

all your mental armor drags me down
we can’t breathe when you come around
all your mental armor drags me down
nothing hurts like your mouth mouth mouth
your mouth mouth mouth
your mouth mouth mouth

we’ve been missing long before
never found our way home
we’ve been missing long before
where we’ll find our way

you gave me this
made me give

you have soul machine
broken free

all your mental armor drags me down
we can’t breathe when you come around
all your mental armor drags me down
nothing hurts like your mouth mouth mouth
your mouth mouth mouth
your mouth mouth mouth

all your mental armor
all your mental armor
and your mouth mouth

  1. Oh, that’s dark. I think I might know her. I likee.

  2. LOVED “American Werewolf”… david naughton was hot and hairy and loveable despite his pesky habit of biting the heads off people…

  3. Annie tells us it’s your birthday. Happy birthday! Hope it’s a good one.

  4. @ unbearable banishment: Careful. She may bite the hand (or whatever) that feeds her.

@ daisyfae: I think both movies were pretty good although, truthfully, it’s been so long I don’t really recall. I do, however, listen to Bush (including “Mouth”) a lot…

@ TGLB: Thank you. It was my birthday and, though I don’t personally place a lot of significance on the day itself, it was a good one.
