Song Lyric Thursday – June 12, 2008

I must be getting old or soft or both.

My 23 yo daughter Jordan has just moved home and we’ve convinced her to stay for a bit to get on her feet financially and do a little more planning before she heads off on her own to B.C.

Father’s Day is coming up and Katy’s kindergarten class has a project night tonight to build a kit birdhouse.  We just have to supply protective eyewear and a hammer and, of course, dad.

So, in accordance with the calendar and recent events, today’s song lyric Thursday is all about kids.

I copied these lyrics from lyricwiki.org (never heard of the site before today) and they don’t credit the song writer, only that it was performed by The Oak Ridge Boys.

Thank God For Kids

performed by The Oak Ridge Boys

If it weren’t for kids have you ever thought
There wouldn’t be no Santa Claus
Or look what the stork just brought
Thank God for kids.

And we’d all live in a quiet house
With-out Big Bird or Mickey Mouse
And Kool Aid on the couch
Thank God for kids.

Thank God for kids, there’s magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why
The nearest thing to heaven is a child.

When you get down on your knees tonight
To thank the Lord for His guiding light
And pray they turn out right
Thank God for kids.

Daddy, how does this thing fly?
And a hundred other wheres and whys
You really don’t know but you try
Thank God for kids.

When you look down in those trusting eyes
That look to you, you realize
There’s a love that you can’t buy
Thank God for kids…

Note to Silverstar:  Look!  It’s not “A Perfect Circle” this week! “Dying cats”, indeed!

  1. Ah, yes, having spent much of my life in small towns and much of my misspent youth in country-western bars, I am familiar with the Oak Ridge Boys. I think I like Kenney Chesney’s version of this song better, though. You can find it here.

  2. Sweetie, didn’t we have a discussion not long ago about why we even have children? I vote for tender-hearted. It has to be the holiday.

  3. @ silverstar: Who’s Kenney Chesney? 🙂

    @ Sweetie: Yes, we did. But I think maybe it’s soft-headed. 😎
